Designing for Puff HTV

Puff is best treated as a special-effect material rather than a replacement for ordinary flat HTV. Use artwork with enough line weight and open space for the material to expand. Very fine details, tiny text and tightly packed shapes may not develop as consistently as larger, simpler elements. Because the final texture varies with artwork, fabric, pressure and heat, test the actual garment and design before a production run.

For a flat, thin everyday transfer, choose a conventional HTV such as UltraWeed instead. Choose Puff when the raised texture itself is an important part of the finished look.

Cutting & Heat-Press Guidance

Mirror the artwork before cutting. Cut through the heat-transfer layer while leaving the carrier intact, weed away excess material and position the design carrier-side up. Always perform a test cut before production. Stahls' recommends maintaining at least 1/16-inch line thickness for optimal cutting and weeding across its CAD-CUT materials.

Heat apply at 280°F for 8–10 seconds using medium pressure and peel hot. Accurate time, temperature and pressure matter with dimensional materials because the heat application creates both adhesion and the finished puff effect.

Care & Storage

Machine wash decorated garments inside out using mild detergent. Do not use bleach or dry clean. Dry at a normal household dryer setting. Store unused material in a cool, dry area away from direct heat, sunlight and humidity.
